MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DESIGN AND PRODUCTION - Mechatronics Curriculum
Mechatronics is a discipline that is based on the integration of Mechanical Engineering with Electronics and Computer Science, in order to create increasingly advanced, functional, reliable and economical products and to develop intelligent and flexible industrial production systems. Mechatronic systems are increasingly widespread in traditional fields of Mechanical Engineering (vehicles, home appliances, defense systems, machine tools, operating machines, handling systems, power generation and conversion systems, industrial and service robots), as well as in culturally hybrid fields such as naval, nautical and bioengineering.
THE EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering – Design and Production, Mechatronics Curriculum provides a specialized mastery of the methods and technological content related to mechanical systems, mechatronics and automation devices; provides high operational capabilities in integrated mechanical, electronic and control planning and production management, in order to train a Master’s degree graduate to able to effectively enter into and grow professionally in the dynamics of companies, research institutions or in self-employment contexts.
The Manifesto of Studies provides a path that allows the student to learn to follow a project in its entirety, from the first stages of functional and conceptual design, through mechanical design and integration with electrical, electronic and software components, to arrive at the realization and experimentation in the field. The laboratory and internship activities related to the development of the thesis are designed not only to deepen, with specific hands-on activities, specific technological skills (ex. 3D printing), but also to develop the so-called soft-skills, which today are strongly requested in the industrial field (group work, communication and reporting skills).
OCCUPATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Employment data confirms that the Master’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering is one of the most requested in the world of work. In particular, in today’s technological context, the multidisciplinary skills of the mechatronic approach are increasingly needed. Employment and professional opportunities exist in companies operating in the fields of integrated mechanical systems, technological innovation and advanced design. Furthermore, the acquired skills allow graduates to work in research centers, public and private bodies, with management skills, or to carry out professional activities.
